Ed and I drove back north straight into an unprecedented ice storm! The drear of winter feels like it will never end up here. We keep thinking that spring will come, but we can’t see it. We’re supposedly on the brink of new life, but it doesn’t yet feel like it. Even the deer are antsy. The orchards are still bare sticks. The sap is running. The icy lake inhales and exhales as it sheds its cover.

But there’s a moment, a breath – t’s the hope in that breath before a solution appears. It’s the pause before a breakthrough. That’s where faith lives. Growth starts first in the deep, in the roots.

And then, almost overnight, the hint of green appears...

Spring breaks through and unfurls. Breaks through. Breakthroughs are earned. You have to keep going. That wandering around without yet being able to find direction is a process that must be honored. I want to share this with you. That’s why I’m coming back to Nashville again! This time for What Lies Beneath.

What Lies Beneath is a series that follows the icy winter as it turns into spring. It’s a metaphor that explores how decisions are a process. While we can’t always see progress, and it certainly isn’t on our timeline, ultimately, we find enough clarity to move forward. This series honors how direction emerges over time.

I’m looking forward to sharing with you again in Nashville on Thursday, April 24th. These paintings have a bold teal, blue and dark brown palette that melt into a turquoise and a sublime yellow green. Come share it with me. Bring your people.
